The Controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position is further responsible for cash management, forecasting risk management and Information Technology (I.T.).
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :
TRANSACTIONS:
- Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and ensure that transactions are recorded timely and properly.
- Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
- Maintain accurate job costing records and Work in Progress Reporting.
- Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
- Ensure payroll is processed in a timely manner.
- Ensure that periodic banking and other balance sheet account reconciliations are completed on a timely basis.
- Coordinate monthly billing with Project Managers and produce appropriate AIA and other billing.
- Coordinate the Service Department to ensure that appropriate and timely billing is produced for service customers.
- Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
- Maintain a chart of accounts
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Review owner or subcontractor contracts for payment terms, bonding requirements and insurance requirements.
REPORTING:
- Issue timely and complete financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
- Recommend benchmarks to measure the performance of company operations.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
- Assist with the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Complete and/or assist with all audits including sales tax, 401K, Workers Compensation and annual audits as required.
- Provide a system of management cost reports.
- Information Technology - Monitor and work directly with in-house I.T. and 3rd party vendor to safeguard the company's internal controls and maintenance/procurement of all software and I.T. equipment
JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
- At minimum, the Controller candidate must have a bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration; Or 5-10+ years accounting-related business experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates with the CPA or CMA
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Self-Motivated with strong work ethic.
- Experience with Viewpoint Spectrum and Build Ops
Base Salary range from $80K - $120k
