Fives North American Combustion, Inc. is hiring a permanent, full-time Buyer to join our team in Cleveland, OH.

At Fives, we all have a part to play in achieving our common mission. Your role will be:

  • Determines method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Prepares purchase orders in SAP or bid requests.
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Maintains procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Acts as a liaison between manufacturing/engineering and the supplier
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
  • Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, new or altered types of materials entering the market, etc.
  • Work with manufacturers or persuade potential vendors to undertake the manufacturing of custom-designed items according to user's specific needs and specifications.
  • Approve invoices for payment.
  • Expedite delivery of goods to users.
  • Supplier setup in ERP system
  • Assess demand for categories of responsibility
  • Issue purchase orders to suppliers
  • Issue acknowledgements
  • Work with suppliers to ensure goods are delivered timely and accurately
  • Identify and develop new suppliers
  • Work with the inventory management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products

  • 5-10 years experience.
  • Ability to work well with a team.
  • Able to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with importing into the US and familiarity with INCO terms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of MS Excel, MS Word and industry standard purchase order software platforms
  • Experience with SAP ERP is highly desirable, but not required.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to read bills of material and routings.
  • Experience in manufacturing - job processing, shop floor management, manufacturing processes – helpful.
  • Integrity: Deal with others in a straightforward and honest manner, accountable for actions, maintaining confidentiality and supporting company values.
  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor's Degree required.
